Tight Bounds for Online Bandwidth Allocation on Two Links
We study on-line bandwidth allocation on two parallel links. Motivated by issues of Quality of Service and fair resource allocation, the goal is to maximize the load of the least loaded link. We analyze several models of different and of identical links and give tight bounds on the competitive ratio in those models.
متن کاملTechniques for Dynamic and Prioritized Bandwidth Allocation On Incoming Links
We consider the problem of prioritizing the incoming TCP traffic on a link. The objective is to allocate dynamically a specific share of the incoming link bandwidth to a high priority TCP traffic. However, if the high priority TCP traffic does not fully use this dedicated share, the low priority TCP traffic may take advantage of the unused bandwidth. Up to today, a network administrator has no ...
متن کاملBounds on Optical Bandwidth Allocation on Directed Fiber Tree Topologies
In this paper, we address the issue of efficiently allocating wavelengths to communication requests in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks. We present a simple greedy algorithm and study its performance on directed binary fiber trees. We prove that our algorithm guarrantees a 5=3-approximationfor wavelengths assignment in binary tree shaped WDM optical networks. We also prov...
متن کاملTight Bounds for Depth-two Superconcentrators
We show that the minimum size of a depth-two N-superconcentrator is (N log 2 N= loglog N). Before this work, optimal bounds were known for all depths except two. For the upper bound, we build superconcentrators by putting together a small number of disperser graphs; these disperser graphs are obtained using a probabilistic argument. We present two diierent methods for showing lower bounds. Firs...
متن کاملBandwidth Allocation for IP Traffic Over Satellite Links
∗ Current Address: Carleton University, School of Computer Science Ottawa, Ontario, Canada K1S 5B6, [email protected] Satellites are being deployed for extending the terrestrial Internet infrastructure to remote areas, offering tele-medicine and teleeducation as well as e-mail, web browsing, and e-commerce. Satellite bandwidth is, however, an expensive resource. Static apportionment is no...
